Thinly slice shallots and ginger for the sweet soy sauce.

Add cooking oil to a sauce pot and sauté the shallots and ginger over medium heat until they start to brown.

Remove the shallots and ginger from the pot, keeping as much oil as possible; discard the ginger but keep the crispy shallots.

Add soy sauce, Chinese rice wine, and brown sugar to the flavored oil; let it simmer for a couple of minutes until it slightly thickens.

In the rice cooker, add rice and water, then lay in the Chinese sausage and Chinese pork belly.

Start the rice cooker and wait for it to finish cooking.

Once done, open the rice cooker and lift out the Chinese sausage and pork belly onto a plate; thinly slice them on a cutting board.

If cooking on the stovetop, check for crispy bits of rice at the bottom of the pot; if using a rice cooker, you won't get crispy rice but it will still be delicious.
