Homemade stock is healthier; water is the most economical.

Start with 3 cans of chicken broth in a pot.

Add about 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the chicken broth.

Chop and add 2 carrots and 1 large onion to the pot.

Add approximately 2 pounds of butternut squash to the pot.

Cook the mixture for about 40 minutes until the vegetables are tender.

Fill a canister with the cooked butternut squash and some of the broth.

Crack the lid on the canister slightly to allow steam to escape while blending.

Blend the mixture until smooth, then return it to the pot.

Add 2 tablespoons of butter to the blended soup and mix well.

Pour in heavy cream to the soup and mix again.
