Trdelnik, originating from Central Europe, particularly the Czech Republic and Slovakia, is a beloved sweet pastry traditionally made during festive occasions. Its spiral shape and crispy exterior, combined with a soft, fluffy interior, make it a popular street food. Today, variations abound, with fillings and toppings ranging from ice cream to fruit, enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.

Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl; let sit until foamy, about 5-10 minutes.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and cinnamon.
Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the flour mixture; mix until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle, then cut into strips about 1 inch wide.
Wrap each strip around a greased wooden dowel or rolling pin, overlapping slightly.
Mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl; roll the dough-wrapped dowels in the mixture to coat.
Bake the trdelnik in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown, rotating halfway through.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before carefully sliding off the dowels.
Brush the warm trdelnik with melted butter and roll in chopped nuts or additional sugar.
Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar and accompanied by chocolate or fruit preserves.
