1

Melt 1 cup of butter in the microwave and place it into a pot on low heat.

2

Add 1 and 3/4 cups of sugar to the pot.

3

Pour in 1 can (395 g) of sweetened condensed milk.

4

Add 1 and 1/4 cup of corn syrup, previously heated in the microwave for easier pouring.

5

Stir the mixture until the sugar is completely dissolved.

6

Add black food coloring to achieve the desired black color, stirring to mix.

7

Insert a candy thermometer and heat the mixture while stirring until it reaches 230°F (110°C).

8

Once the temperature is reached, remove the pot from the stove.

9

Pour the mixture into a pan lined with parchment paper.

10

Let the mixture sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.

11

Place the pan in the fridge for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight, to set completely.

12

After setting, remove the block of licorice from the pan.

13

Cut the licorice into desired shapes, noting it may be a bit sticky.

14

Optionally, coat the cut pieces in flour or icing sugar to reduce stickiness.
