Frozen plums are often more affordable and convenient.
Boil potatoes in salted water until tender.
Wash and dry the plums, cut them halfway open, and remove the pit.
Fill each plum with about 1/8 cup of granulated sugar and close them up.
Peel and mash the boiled potatoes, adding salt to taste (about 1 teaspoon).
Add 1 egg and about 1/2 cup of flour to the mashed potatoes.
Continue adding more flour until the mixture resembles a crumbly dough.
Roll out the dough and cut it into circles using a glass.
Dust both sides of the dough circles with flour.
Place a plum in the center of each dough circle, pinch the sides to seal, and roll it in your hands to ensure it's sealed.
Dust a cloth with flour and place the dumplings on it.
In a large saucepan, bring water to a boil and drop the dumplings in, cooking until they float (about 5 minutes).
Scoop the dumplings out with a slotted spoon.
In a frying pan, melt 1/3 cup of margarine or butter and add 1 cup of breadcrumbs, stirring until golden brown.
Sprinkle the dumplings with the breadcrumb mixture and a little sugar before serving.
