1/2 cup (100 g) white sugar
1 cup (300 g) white sugar (for syrup)
1 (250 ml) water
½ lemon juice

Preheat the oven and brush the baking tray with tahini, then set it aside.

Combine the semolina, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Stir in the melted butter and plain yogurt until combined.

Transfer the batter to the prepared pan and spread it out evenly. Let it sit for 10 minutes so the baking powder will start to work.

Decorate the harissa with almonds. (Tip: To remove the skin of almonds, cover nuts with just boiled water, let it soak for 30 minutes, then the skin will be removed easily.)

Bake on medium rack until the sides and top are golden brown, about 35-40 minutes. Broil the cake for a couple of minutes to brown the top.

When you pour the sugar syrup onto the cake, the cake should be hot (right out of the oven) and the syrup should be cool (room temperature) so the harissa cake fully absorbs the syrup.
