Homemade Graham Crackers

Graham crackers originated in the early 19th century, created by Sylvester Graham as part of a health movement promoting vegetarianism and whole grains. Traditionally enjoyed as a snack or dessert base, they are often associated with childhood memories of s'mores and camping. Today, homemade versions are popular for their freshness and ability to customize flavors, while still retaining the nostalgic essence of the original.

Coconut oil is dairy-free and adds a subtle flavor.

Agave syrup is lower on the glycemic index.
Cream together 115 grams of salted butter and half a cup of soft brown sugar.
Add quarter of a cup of honey and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix well.
Incorporate 1 cup of all-purpose flour and 250 grams of whole wheat flour into the mixture.
Add half a teaspoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of baking powder, then mix.
Pour in half a cup of whole milk and mix until a dough forms.
Chill the dough in the fridge for about an hour.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about a quarter of an inch thick.
Cut the dough into squares or rectangles using a knife and a template.
Place the cut dough on baking paper, leaving space between them.
Mark the tops of the crackers with a fork and optionally freeze for 20 minutes to prevent spreading.
Preheat the oven to 175 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit).
Bake for about 11 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
