Boil the carrots, potatoes, eggs, and beetroot until done.

Wait until the vegetables have cooled a little before grating the carrots, beetroot, and potatoes.

Cut the eggs, herring, and onion into small pieces.

Keep the prepared ingredients separate from each other.

Take a glass bowl or plastic container to assemble the salad.

Layer the ingredients in the following order: first potatoes, then a bit of mayonnaise, herring, some more mayonnaise, onion, carrots, a bit of extra mayonnaise, eggs, some more mayonnaise again, beetroot, and finally some mayonnaise on top as decoration.

Spread the mayonnaise evenly but do not mix the layers.

Serve immediately as the beetroot will bleed into the mayonnaise quickly.
