This dessert highlights the use of sago, a starch extracted from palm trees, combined with the rich flavor of coconut milk. Traditionally, it is served chilled and garnished with fruits, showcasing the vibrant flavors of the region. In recent years, it has gained popularity beyond Myanmar, with variations appearing in other Southeast Asian cuisines.

Peel and cut white yam into half-inch pieces.
Soak yam pieces in water to prevent discoloration.
Boil water and add 1 cup of sago, stirring continuously to prevent sticking.
Once the sago is almost clear, cover and let it steam for about 10 minutes.
Add 2 cups of water to the cooked sago to remove excess starch.
Remove sago from pot and place in a bowl, adding more water to remove more starch.
Boil water again and cook white yam for 3-5 minutes until tender.
In a separate pot, combine coconut milk with an equal amount of water.
Add 3 tablespoons of sugar and 1 teaspoon of salt to the coconut milk mixture and bring to a boil.
Add 2-3 tablespoons of sago, cooked white yam, and black sticky rice to the coconut milk mixture.
Mix well and let it boil briefly, then transfer to a bowl to serve.
