1 lb (450 g) cooked spaghetti
3 ½ tablespoons (52.5 mL) extra virgin olive oil
½ lb (230 g) lean ground beef
½ lb (230 g) ham, cubed
½ yellow onion, diced
1 garlic, minced
1 carrot, peeled and diced
2 tablespoons (10 g) oregano, minced
1 tablespoon (5 mL) thyme, minced
1 tablespoon (5 mL) rosemary
1 cup (240 mL) red wine
3½ cups (820 mL) store bought Marinara Sauce
salt and pepper to taste

Place 1½ tablespoons (22.5 mL) oil into a large pot, over medium-high heat.

Add ground beef and allow to brown, about 4 minutes.

Drain excess liquid and add ham to beef. Stir and sauté for about 2 minutes. Remove from pan and set aside.

Pour remaining oil into pan and sauté onions and garlic for 3 to 4 minutes.

Add carrots and continue to sauté for an additional 3 to 4 minutes.

Stir in herbs and continue to cook for 1 minute.

Add meat mixture back into pan and stir. Season with salt and pepper.

Deglaze pan with ½ cup (120 mL) of red wine and cook until most liquid has disappeared.

Add marinara sauce to the pot and reduce the heat to medium.

Stir in the remaining red wine and stir.

Simmer sauce for 30 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serve over cooked spaghetti and top with freshly grated parmesan.
