Fresh tomatoes add brightness, while crushed are often cheaper.
Finely chop 2 carrots and set them aside.
Finely chop 2 onions.
Chop smoked bacon into small pieces, skimming off excess fat.
Add onions and bacon to a large frying pan with a little olive oil and gently fry until onions start to turn brown and bacon gets color.
Add beef mince and pork mince to the pan, breaking it up as it cooks until browned.
Transfer the browned meat mixture to the slow cooker.
Add the chopped carrots, 1 tablespoon of mixed herbs, and 500 grams of passata to the slow cooker.
Pour in 175 ml of red wine and add 1 tablespoon of corn flour and black pepper to the slow cooker.
Mix all ingredients in the slow cooker thoroughly and cover with the lid.
Cook on low for 7 to 8 hours or on medium for 4 to 5 hours.
