Today, Shambali has gained popularity beyond Turkey, with variations appearing in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines, showcasing the universal love for sweet, syrup-soaked cakes.

Sauté onion in olive oil until caramelized.
Cut carrots and potatoes into small cubes.
Halfway fry carrots and potatoes before adding to the dish.
Add tomato and red pepper paste to the onions and cook for a couple more minutes.
Chop four cloves of garlic and add to the mixture.
Add frozen peas to the sautéed mixture.
Season with salt, black pepper, and paprika, then stir.
Add enough water to create steam, not covering all the way, and cook for 5-10 minutes.
Add hot water to cover and continue simmering on low heat.
Prepare rice pilaf by heating butter and olive oil in a wide pan.
Brown vermicelli pasta in the butter and olive oil.
Soak rice in warm, salty water for about half an hour, then drain and add to the vermicelli.
Sauté rice and vermicelli together for a couple of minutes.
Add carrots to the peas after 30 minutes of cooking, then add potatoes after 5 minutes.
Check if rice has soaked all the water and is soft enough, then turn off the heat and let it rest for 15 minutes.
Serve peas along with rice on a big plate or separately in small plates.
