Combine grated coconut, water, and sugar in a pot over low heat, stirring constantly until syrupy, about 5-10 minutes.
Remove from heat and add ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and ground nutmeg; set aside to cool.
Activate yeast by mixing it with warm milk and a teaspoon of sugar; let sit for 10 minutes.
Cream together butter, sugar, salt, and egg in a bowl.
Gradually add flour to the butter mixture, mixing well, then add the activated yeast.
Knead the dough until well combined, then lightly grease a bowl and let it rise for 60 minutes.
Roll out the dough into rectangles and place about a tablespoon of filling down the center.
Fold the sides over the filling and roll up to form turnovers.
Let the turnovers rest for 45 minutes, then brush with beaten egg white and sprinkle with sugar.
Preheat the oven to 425°F, then reduce to 350°F and bake for 18 minutes.
