This quick pickling method allows for a fast and easy way to enjoy this versatile ingredient, which has gained popularity in modern cooking for its ability to brighten up any dish.

Apple cider vinegar adds a fruity flavor while distilled vinegar is often cheaper.

In a pan add the sugar and water and mix until sugar dissolves. Add the butter and let it melt.
Pour the onions into a pan and add the salt, pepper, thyme, and apple cider vinegar. Mix with a spatula to combine. Cover with the lid and cook for 30 minutes on low heat.
After 30 minutes add the more butter and mix all well together to make the onions more creamy.
Serve the onions on a serving dish and pour the sugar sauce over them. Decorate with thyme.
