Poke holes all over the pork shoulder with a knife to allow marinade to penetrate.
Inject minced garlic into the pork shoulder using a marinade injector.
Fill the injector with naranja agria and inject it into the pork shoulder.
Pour the remaining naranja agria into a pan with the pork and refrigerate overnight.
Prepare a rub with 1/4 cup kosher salt, an equal amount of black pepper, 1 tablespoon onion powder, and 2 teaspoons cumin.
Mix the rub ingredients together and rub them all over the pork shoulder.
Place the pork shoulder on the grill with a drip pan of water underneath.
Smoke the pork shoulder for 3 hours at a low temperature.
After 3 hours, place the pork shoulder in a pan and pour beer over it, covering it with foil.
Insert a thermometer into the deepest part of the pork and return it to the grill for another 5 hours until it reaches 190°F (88°C).
Once done, pull the pork off the grill and shred it for sandwiches.
Serve the pulled pork on a sandwich with barbecue sauce and sliced red onion.
