Brown rice is more nutritious while medium grain rice is often less expensive.

Rinse 1 cup of long grain white rice under cold water until the water runs clear.

Give the rice a second wash and drain the excess water.

Add enough water to the pot so it is half an inch above the rice.

Add 1 teaspoon of butter for flavor.

Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat for about 7-8 minutes.

Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low (or number 3 on a quiet stovetop) and cover the pot.

Let it steam for an additional 5 minutes.

After 5 minutes, check the rice; if it looks moist with some liquid, it is ready to steam further.

Cover the rice with a piece of plastic wrap to seal it and add a bit of water on top.

Bring the heat back up to 4 and steam for 8 minutes.

Remove the lid and carefully take off the plastic wrap, ensuring the water doesn't drip down into the rice.
