🥗Healthier: brown rice

💰Cheaper: medium grain rice

Brown rice is more nutritious while medium grain rice is often less expensive.

1

Measure 2 cups of long grain white rice (186 grams) using a scale.

2

In the first Instant Pot, combine 2 cups of rice with 2 cups of water (1:1 ratio).

3

In the second Instant Pot, combine 2 cups of rice with 3 cups of water (1:1.5 ratio).

4

Set both Instant Pots to sealing and cook on manual for 5 minutes.

5

After cooking, let the rice sit for 5 minutes for natural pressure release.

6

Push the valves to vent and remove the lids to check the rice.

7

Evaluate the rice from the first pot (1:1 ratio) and note it is drier and less moist.

8

Evaluate the rice from the second pot (1:1.5 ratio) and note it is softer and stickier.

9

For the next experiment, rinse 2 cups of rice and repeat the same water ratios (3 cups for 1:1.5 and 2 cups for 1:1).

10

Cook both rinsed rice pots for 5 minutes with a 5-minute natural pressure release.

11

Check the results of the rinsed rice; the 1:1.5 ratio is very soft, while the 1:1 ratio is sticky but not much different from the non-rinsed rice.

12

Decide to eliminate the rinsed rice from the competition and recommend the 1:1.5 ratio for better consistency.
