Neapolitan Margherita Pizza

Originating from Naples, Italy, the Margherita pizza is a symbol of Italian culinary tradition, celebrated for its simplicity and quality ingredients. Named after Queen Margherita of Savoy, it features the colors of the Italian flag: red tomatoes, white mozzarella, and green basil. Today, it is a staple in pizzerias worldwide, often made with local variations.

Preheat the oven to its highest setting, ideally 475-500ยฐF (245-260ยฐC).
Prepare the sauce by crushing san marzano tomatoes in a bowl and adding salt to taste.
Shape the pizza dough into a round base on a floured surface, about 10-12 inches in diameter.
Spread a thin layer of the tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
Tear fresh mozzarella into pieces and scatter evenly over the sauce.
Add fresh basil leaves on top of the mozzarella.
Drizzle a little extra virgin olive oil over the pizza for flavor.
Transfer the pizza to a preheated pizza stone or baking sheet.
Bake for 8-12 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a minute before slicing.
Garnish with additional fresh basil if desired before serving.
