Salted Cream Cheese Frosting

This frosting has become a favorite in modern baking, with variations that include additional flavors and ingredients, but the classic salted version adds a delightful contrast that enhances the overall taste.

Let the stick of salted butter and cream cheese sit out to soften.
In a stand mixer, combine 1 stick of softened butter and 8 oz of softened cream cheese.
Mix the butter and cream cheese together until creamy.
Gradually add 4 cups of sifted powdered sugar, mixing a little at a time.
Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the mixture.
Stop the mixer and scrape down the sides of the bowl to ensure everything is mixed well.
Continue mixing until the frosting is smooth and well combined.
Prepare your cake layers by placing the first layer upside down on a cake board.
Spread a layer of frosting on top of the first cake layer.
Add toasted pecans in the middle of the cake if desired.
Place the second cake layer upside down on top of the first layer and add more frosting on top.
Repeat the process with a third layer if desired, adding frosting and pecans as needed.
Finish frosting the sides of the cake with a light coating first, then add more frosting to the top layer.
Decorate the top of the cake with toasted pecans if desired.
