Prepare the marinade by blending onion, garlic, ginger, cayenne pepper, black pepper, paprika, thyme, salt, lime juice, and vegetable oil until smooth.

2

Add tomato paste and water to the marinade and blend until well combined.

3

Clean the whole chicken and make shallow cuts in the meat to help the marinade penetrate.

4

Rub the marinade all over the chicken, ensuring it gets into the cuts and cavities.

5

Cover the chicken and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.

6

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.

7

Remove the chicken from the marinade and let excess marinade drip off.

Place the chicken on the grill, breast side down, and cook for 15-20 minutes.

9

Flip the chicken and cook for another 15-20 minutes, basting with leftover marinade.

10

Check for doneness; the internal temperature should reach 165°F.

Remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving.
