In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup of butter and bring to a light simmer.
Once the butter is dissolved, add flour quickly and stir until it forms a ball.
Cool the mixture slightly before adding eggs one at a time, stirring well after each addition.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract to the mixture and stir to combine.
Spread the dough onto a baking sheet, leaving space in the middle for expansion during baking.
Bake for 60 minutes, checking towards the end to ensure it looks dry.
Prepare the icing by mixing powdered sugar with a little butter and almond extract until desired consistency is reached.
Drizzle the icing over the baked kringle and top with sliced almonds.
