Appelstroop is a traditional Dutch apple syrup made from cooking down apples into a thick, sweet concentrate. Historically, it was a way to preserve apples and is often enjoyed on bread or pancakes. This versatile syrup is a staple in Dutch households and has gained popularity in various countries, often used as a natural sweetener or flavor enhancer in recipes.

Lime juice can be used for a similar tartness.
Wash and dry the apples.
Core the apples using a peeler core combination tool.
Juice the apples using a centrifugal juicer, ensuring no seeds are included in the juice.
Pour off any foam from the juice container and continue juicing until all apples are processed.
Measure at least 1 liter of apple juice and pour it into a wide-bottom pan.
Bring the apple juice to a boil over medium-high heat.
Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer until it reduces by about half.
Taste the juice to determine sweetness and add 2 teaspoons of white castor sugar if needed, stirring until dissolved.
Check the syrup consistency by placing a small amount on a cold plate and letting it cool.
Once the desired thickness is reached, turn off the heat and pour the syrup into a glass container.
