Traditionally, they are a comfort food enjoyed during family gatherings and celebrations. Today, variations like Atomic Dumplings have emerged, incorporating spicy elements to cater to modern palates, making them popular in many regions beyond Russia.

Soak sardines in water to reduce flavor strength.
In a food processor, combine 300 G cooked potato, 25 G buckwheat flour, 60 G canned peas, 1 whole egg, 45 G coarse chopped onion, and black pepper.
Blend until a dough-like consistency is achieved.
Cover the dough and let it rest for 15 minutes.
Fill a silicone ice cube tray with the dough mixture.
Freeze the filled tray.
Bring a pot of water to a boil.
Break the frozen dumplings out of the molds and place them in boiling water.
Cook until they float, about 3-4 minutes, then continue cooking for an additional 10 minutes.
Remove dumplings with a spider and let them cool.
Preheat the broiler and spoon cherry tomato sauce onto a baking dish.
Arrange the dumplings in the sauce, flat side down, leaving space between them.
Broil for 5-6 minutes until browned and sauce is bubbling.
Sprinkle Louisiana crumble or breadcrumbs on top and return to the broiler for 1 more minute.
