Grand Marnier Soufflé

Cultural Context

The Grand Marnier Soufflé is a classic French dessert that showcases the elegance of soufflés, which originated in the 18th century. This airy dish is a delightful combination of whipped egg whites and a rich base flavored with the orange liqueur Grand Marnier. Traditionally served as a show-stopping finale to a meal, soufflés are often associated with French culinary mastery. Today, variations abound, but the Grand Marnier version remains a favorite for its luxurious flavor and light texture, making it a popular choice for special occasions.

1

Separate the eggs, placing the egg whites into a metal bowl and the yolks into a non-metal bowl by cracking the eggs and transferring the yolk from shell to shell.

2

Whisk the egg whites until stiff peaks form, about 20-30 seconds.

3

Add 1 dessert spoon of sugar to the egg whites and whisk again for about 15 seconds until combined.

4

In the bowl with the egg yolks, add 1.5 shots of Grand Marnier and 3 dessert spoons of sugar, then whisk until blended.

5

Gently fold the egg whites into the egg yolk mixture using a metal spoon, adding a spoonful at a time and mixing gently to maintain the air in the egg whites.

6

Add 2 tablespoons of marmalade to the bottom of each ramekin.

7

Fill the ramekins with the soufflé mixture to just about the brim, ensuring no air pockets remain by gently tapping the ramekins on the worktop and cleaning the edges with your thumb.

8

Bake the soufflés in the oven for 16 minutes.
