Cream buns, a beloved treat in South Africa, showcase the influence of British baking traditions. These soft, sweet rolls are often enjoyed at tea time or as a dessert, filled with whipped cream and sometimes jam. Today, they are a popular choice for celebrations and gatherings, embodying the warmth of South African hospitality.

Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl; let sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and baking powder.
Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs to the dry ingredients; mix until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into equal portions; shape each portion into a ball.
Place the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between them.
Cover the dough balls with a cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
While the buns cool, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
Cut a slit in each bun and fill with whipped cream.
Dust the filled buns with additional powdered sugar before serving.
