St. Louis Toasted Ravioli

Cultural Context

Originating from St. Louis, Missouri, toasted ravioli is a beloved local specialty that reflects the Italian immigrant influence on American cuisine. Traditionally, these ravioli are breaded and deep-fried, providing a crispy exterior that contrasts with the tender pasta and savory filling. Often served as an appetizer, they are typically accompanied by marinara sauce for dipping. Over the years, toasted ravioli has gained popularity beyond St. Louis, becoming a staple at fairs and Italian restaurants across the United States.

1

Welcome to Man Kitchen Recipes, today we're making toasted ravioli.

2

We're using store-bought chicken cheese ravioli for this recipe.

3

For the egg wash, crack 2 eggs into a bowl and add about 1/4 cup of milk. Whisk until combined.

4

Set up a breading station with flour, the egg wash, and Italian seasoned panko breadcrumbs.

5

Take a ravioli, coat it in flour, dip it in the egg wash, and then coat it with the breadcrumbs. Shake off any excess breadcrumbs.

6

Repeat the coating process until all raviolis are coated.

7

Heat olive oil on the Blackstone grill for shallow frying.

8

Once the oil is hot (about 350 to 400 degrees), carefully add the raviolis to the oil, starting with about 10 at a time.

9

Check the raviolis as they fry, flipping them to ensure they are toasted evenly.

10

Once they are golden and crispy, move them to the cooler side of the griddle to keep warm while you fry the remaining raviolis.

11

Heat up marinara sauce to serve with the toasted ravioli.
