Texas Sheet Cake

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

In a bowl, mix together 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt until well combined.

In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, melt 1/4 cup butter.

Add 1 heaping tablespoon cocoa powder and 1/4 cup hot water to the melted butter, stirring until combined and bring to a boil.

Add 1/4 teaspoon baking soda, 1 egg yolk, and 1.5 tablespoons buttermilk to the dry ingredients, mixing until combined.

Pour the hot chocolate mixture into the batter, stirring until combined. The batter will be thin.

Spray an 8.5 by 6-inch pan with cooking spray and pour the batter into the pan, spreading it evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

While the cake is baking, prepare the frosting by melting 2 tablespoons butter in a saucepan.

Add 1 tablespoon cocoa powder and 1.5 tablespoons buttermilk or whipping cream to the melted butter, stirring until combined.

Gradually add 1 cup powdered sugar, mixing to avoid lumps, and then add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, stirring until smooth.

Once the cake is out of the oven, immediately pour the hot frosting over the hot cake, spreading it evenly.

Let the cake cool before slicing into 4 to 6 pieces.
