Serbian Lepinja Bread

Lepinja bread is a traditional Serbian flatbread, often served with grilled meats or used for sandwiches. This bread is versatile and can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature, making it a staple in Serbian cuisine and beyond, with variations found throughout the Balkans.

Almond milk reduces calories while maintaining moisture.

Vegetable oil is less expensive and works well for baking.
Add yeast & sugar to warm water. Let rest until bubbly.
Add flour and salt to the bubbly mixture.
Knead the dough for 8 minutes with a dough hook.
Cover the dough until it doubles in size.
Cut and shape the dough into balls.
Let the shaped dough rise until doubled.
Flatten each ball to roughly 1/2 inch thick.
Let rise again for 5 minutes.
Bake on a preheated stone at the highest oven temperature (550°F) with the broiler on for nice leopard spots.
