This bread is often enjoyed alongside stews or soups, making it a comforting addition to any meal. In modern times, variations have emerged, with some bakers incorporating seeds and nuts for added texture and nutrition.

Non-alcoholic stout maintains flavor without alcohol.
Add 2 1/2 cups warm water to a bowl.
Stir in 10g instant yeast and 3 tablespoons sugar until combined.
Add 7 cups brown bread flour and 1 teaspoon salt, mixing until a dough forms.
Add 3 tablespoons butter or margarine and knead until combined.
Transfer the dough to a work surface and knead for 7-10 minutes until elastic and smooth.
Rub a bowl with 1 tablespoon oil and place the dough inside.
Cover the bowl and let the dough rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
After 1 hour, sprinkle flour on the work surface and shape the dough into a loaf (or 2 loaves if using small pans).
Place the shaped dough into 1 large greased loaf pan or two small loaf pans.
Cover and let the dough rise for 45-60 minutes.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 35-45 minutes, until golden brown.
Brush the baked bread with butter or margarine.
Let the bread cool for 30 minutes before cutting.
