1

Turn the oven on to 325°F with the rack in the middle position.

2

Line a 9 by 13 inch metal pan with foil and grease the foil.

3

Spread 1 cup of chopped walnuts onto a parchment lined baking sheet and toast in the oven for 5 minutes.

4

In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together 1 and 1/4 cups of cake flour, 1 teaspoon of kosher salt, and 3/4 teaspoon of baking powder.

5

In a medium pot, bring 2 inches of water to a boil, then reduce to a simmer.

6

Place a stainless steel bowl over the pot and add 12 teaspoons of butter and 6 oz of unsweetened chocolate, stirring to melt until combined.

7

Pour the melted chocolate and butter mixture into a large bowl and stir in 2 cups of granulated sugar until combined.

8

Add 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract and ensure the mixture is cool to the touch before adding 4 eggs at room temperature, one at a time, stirring thoroughly after each addition.

9

Stir in the dry mixture in thirds, scraping down the sides and working out lumps after each addition.

10

Gently stir in half of the toasted walnuts into the brownie batter.

11

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and smooth it out into an even layer.

12

In a bowl, combine the remaining walnuts, 1/4 cup of milk chocolate chips, and 1/4 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips, tossing together by hand.

13

Sprinkle the chocolate and walnut mixture across the top of the brownie batter.

14

Transfer the brownies to the oven and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through.

15

Perform a toothpick test to check for doneness.

16

Once out of the oven, let the brownies cool for 2 hours before lifting them out of the pan and cutting into 24 squares.
