Sanwin Makin is a traditional Burmese dessert made from glutinous rice, often enjoyed during festivals and celebrations. Its sweet, chewy texture and rich coconut flavor make it a beloved treat in Myanmar. Today, it is enjoyed not only in its homeland but also by those who appreciate Southeast Asian cuisine around the world.

Soak glutinous rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Drain the soaked rice and steam it in a bamboo steamer lined with banana leaves for about 30 minutes until cooked.
In a bowl, mix sugar, coconut milk, salt, and yeast until well combined.
Add the steamed rice to the mixture and stir until the rice is evenly coated.
Incorporate pandan leaves for flavor and color, mixing thoroughly.
Add baking powder and a few drops of food coloring if desired, mixing until the color is uniform.
Grease a baking dish with cooking oil and pour the rice mixture into it, spreading evenly.
Cover the dish with banana leaves and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake the mixture for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden and firm.
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
Sprinkle sesame seeds and coconut flakes on top before serving.
Cut into squares and serve warm or at room temperature.
