Servings4
2 tablespoons yerba mate leaves
1 cup hot water
1 cup room temperature water
2 tablespoons loose leaf yerba mate
1 teapot
1 mug

Quantities are estimated based on standard recipes for your convenience. The actual ingredients used in this video are accurate.

1

Fill the mate cup about 60% full with yerba mate leaves.

2

Cover the cup with your hand and flip it over to give it a gentle shake to clear out any leftover powder.

3

Tip the cup sideways and give it another light shake to ensure the yerba settles at a 60° angle.

4

Pour in hot water around 180°F to fill about a third of the cup.

5

Insert the bombilla and let the mate brew for a couple of minutes.

6

If using a teapot, use one teaspoon (about 5g) of loose leaf yerba mate for every 8 oz of water.

7

Add the yerba to your teapot strainer or infuser.

8

Pour room temperature water over the leaves and wait at least a minute for them to get saturated.

9

Pour in hot water around 160°F to 170°F and let it steep for at least 5 minutes.

10

For a stronger brew, steep for longer.

11

Serve the tea in a mug and enjoy.
