Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
Place the dough in a greased bowl; cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
Punch down the dough and fold in currants.
Divide the dough into equal pieces and shape into balls; place on a baking tray.
Cover the tray and let the buns rise until puffy, about 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Prepare the cross paste by mixing flour and water; pipe crosses on the buns before baking.
Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Remove from the oven and brush with glaze while warm.
