In modern times, variations of this dish have emerged, incorporating different beans and meats, making it a beloved comfort food not only in Portugal but also in Portuguese communities worldwide.

Sauté one onion and garlic in olive oil until translucent.
Add one link of chorizo to the pot.
Add 6-7 small sweet peppers to the pot.
Stir in one can of diced tomatoes and one can of tomato paste.
Pour in 2 cans of chicken stock and 1/2 cup of white wine.
Add 4 cups of soaked beans to the pot.
Season with 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon of cumin, 1 teaspoon of chili powder, and 1 teaspoon of crushed hot pepper.
Add 1/4 cup of barbecue sauce to the mixture.
Cook on medium heat for about 30-45 minutes, checking for tenderness of the beans.
After 45 minutes, add another can of chicken stock, 1/2 cup of chopped parsley, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon.
Cook for a total of about 1.5 hours until beans are perfectly cooked.
