Traditionally, it was a way to preserve bread for long winters, showcasing the ingenuity of using simple ingredients. Today, it's enjoyed not only at breakfast but also as a versatile accompaniment to various meals globally, often topped with butter, cheese, or smoked salmon.

Preheat the oven to 425ºF (225ºC).
In a large bowl add all the dry ingredients followed by the shredded cheese.
Then add the vegetable oil and milk before you knead this into a smooth dough.
When the dough is smooth and easy to work with, slice the dough into 6-8 pieces.
Roll these into round balls that you slightly flatten.
Brush them with a little water and sprinkle some optional sunflower seeds or other seeds of choice on them.
Bake them in the oven for 15-18 minutes.
