Pork shoulder is less expensive and still flavorful.

Using water with bouillon is a cost-effective substitute.

Season 4 bone-in center cut pork chops with salt and black pepper.

Brown the pork chops in a pan until they have a nice brown crust, but do not fully cook them.

Remove the browned pork chops from the pan.

Add 1 chopped onion to the pan to get the brown bits off the bottom.

In a baking dish, combine the drained sauerkraut, diced apple, sautéed onions, caraway seeds, and brown sugar.

Mix the sauerkraut, apples, onions, and caraway seeds together well.

Spoon the mixture on top of each pork chop in the baking dish.

Wrap the baking dish in foil.

Bake in the oven for around 35-40 minutes.
