Today, these treats are enjoyed worldwide, often with various fillings and toppings, making them a beloved pastry for any occasion.

Honey adds moisture and flavor.
Heat 1/2 cup milk to about 110-115°F.
Add 1 teaspoon of sugar and 2 tablespoons of dry active yeast to the milk and stir.
Let the yeast mixture sit for about 15 minutes until foamy.
In a standing mixer with a paddle attachment, add 2 1/2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 cup of white sugar, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of butter.
Add the foaming yeast mixture and 2 beaten eggs to the dry ingredients.
Mix on low speed until combined, then scrape down the sides of the bowl.
Switch to a dough hook and knead the dough on medium speed for about 7-8 minutes until smooth and slightly sticky.
Transfer the dough to a large bowl coated with about 2 teaspoons of oil, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 90 minutes until doubled in size.
Flour a silicone mat and transfer the dough onto it, sprinkling flour on top.
Roll out the dough to about 1/4 to 1/3 inch thick.
Cut out doughnut shapes using a doughnut cutter or ring set.
Cover the cut doughnuts with a cloth to prevent drying out while they rise for another 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to about 360-375°F.
Fry the doughnuts in batches for about 40-60 seconds on each side until golden brown.
Remove the doughnuts and place them on a cooling rack.
Make small incisions on each side of the doughnuts to allow for filling.
Fill a pastry bag with about 1 cup of raspberry seedless preserves and insert the tip into the incision to fill the doughnuts with jelly, about a teaspoon per doughnut.
Dust the filled doughnuts with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar before serving.
