Today, Mkhabez are cherished not only in Algeria but across various regions of North Africa, reflecting the rich culinary heritage of the area.

In a bowl, put 3 cups of almond flour and 1 cup of sugar.
Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of lemon zest, then mix everything together.
In another bowl, beat 1 egg and add it gradually to the almond mixture, mixing well until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
Sprinkle flour on your working board and place a sheet of parchment paper on the dough.
Roll out the dough to your desired thickness using a rolling pin.
Use a cookie cutter to cut out the dough into pieces.
Place the cookies on a non-stick baking pan sprinkled with flour or lined with parchment paper.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Let the cookies cool completely.
Prepare the glaze by mixing 1/8 cup of milk, 1/8 cup of vegetable oil, and 1/8 cup of orange blossom water.
Add powdered sugar until you achieve a thick, pourable consistency, then mix in food coloring and lemon juice.
Pour the glaze on each cookie or dip the tops in the glaze and let it dry for a few hours, preferably overnight.
Use a knife to remove excess glaze from the bottom and sides of the cookies.
Dust the cookies with edible luster dust and garnish with decorative flowers if desired.
