Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
Spread half of the cooked pasta over the potatoes.
Sprinkle half of the cheese and half of the sautéed onions over the pasta.
Add the remaining potatoes and pasta in layers, repeating the cheese and onion.
Pour cream over the entire casserole, ensuring even coverage.
Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg to taste.
Top with remaining cheese and chopped chives.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
