Honey adds natural sweetness with a unique flavor.
Add warm water and sugar to a mixing bowl and mix until sugar is melted.
Add dry active yeast to the water and stir, then cover with a tea towel and let sit for 8-10 minutes until foamy.
Add melted butter and warm milk to the yeast mixture and mix until combined.
Add half the amount of flour to the bowl and mix until no dry flour remains.
Add the remaining flour and mix until a slightly sticky dough forms.
Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
Rub a little butter on top of the dough to prevent a crust, then cover and let rise in a warm area for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a rolling board, knead for 30 seconds to remove air.
Divide the dough into 9 pieces, rolling each into a smooth ball.
Flatten each dough ball and roll out to less than 1/4 inch thick.
Apply butter to the top half of the dough, leaving a space at the bottom.
Fold the top down to the buttered line, squeezing out air and sealing the edges.
Press and seal the dough tightly to prevent it from opening during baking.
Place the shaped dough on a baking pan lined with parchment paper.
Melt the remaining butter and mix in coloring seasoning, then apply on top of each butter flap.
Cover and let rise for an additional 30 minutes.
Bake in the oven at 375°F for 20 minutes.
