Over the years, variations have emerged, with different seasonings and types of crackers, but the essence remains the same: easy, delicious, and perfect for sharing.

Homemade seasoning can reduce sodium and preservatives.

Vegetable oil is often less expensive.
Open the box of saltine crackers and place them in a gallon Ziploc bag.
Add 1 cup of vegetable oil to the bag with the crackers.
Add 2 tablespoons of red pepper flakes to the bag.
Add 1 packet (or 3 tablespoons) of dry ranch seasoning to the bag.
Seal the Ziploc bag and gently toss the crackers to mix the ingredients, being careful not to crush them.
Every 3-5 minutes, come back and gently toss the bag to ensure the oil and seasonings coat the crackers evenly.
Let the crackers marinate for about 30 minutes, tossing occasionally. They can also be left overnight for more flavor.
For the second recipe, open a 9 oz bag of oyster crackers and add an equal amount of goldfish crackers to a mixing bowl.
Add 3 tablespoons of Old Bay seasoning to the bowl with the crackers.
Add 1.5 teaspoons of garlic powder to the bowl (ensure it's garlic powder, not garlic salt).
Mix the oyster and goldfish crackers with the seasonings until evenly coated.
