Hawawshi hails from Egypt, where it is a popular street food, often enjoyed as a quick meal. Traditionally made with spiced ground meat stuffed in pita bread, it reflects the rich flavors of Egyptian cuisine. Today, variations can be found across the Middle East, showcasing local spices and ingredients.
Quantities are estimated based on standard recipes for your convenience. The actual ingredients used in this video are accurate.
Place pepper, garlic, onion, jalapeno, and parsley in a food processor.
Pulse several times until finely chopped.
Drain the excess liquid with the help of a spoon.
Add the mixture to a bowl.
Add ground beef, tomato paste, paprika, cumin, cardamom, coriander, cinnamon, pepper, and salt to the bowl.
Mix all together well to combine.
Cut the pita bread in half and open to make a pocket.
Stuff the pita bread with the meat mixture.
Place the havashi on a baking tray.
Brush with olive oil.
Bake for 15 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius.
After 15 minutes, carefully turn the pita over.
Brush with olive oil again and cook for another 10 minutes.
