Hawawshi hails from Egypt, where it is a popular street food, often enjoyed as a quick meal. Traditionally made with spiced ground meat stuffed in pita bread, it reflects the rich flavors of Egyptian cuisine. Today, variations can be found across the Middle East, showcasing local spices and ingredients.

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, finely chopped onion, bell pepper, minced garlic, and chopped parsley.
Add cumin, coriander, black pepper, salt, and chili powder to the meat mixture.
Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.
Drizzle olive oil into the mixture and add diced tomato and lemon juice.
Stir until the mixture is well incorporated.
Cut each pita bread in half to create pockets.
Stuff each pita pocket with the meat mixture, pressing firmly to fill.
Sprinkle cheese inside each stuffed pita.
Beat an egg and brush the tops of the stuffed pitas for a golden finish.
Place the stuffed pitas on a baking sheet.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until the meat is cooked through and the bread is crispy.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
Serve warm with a side of salad or dipping sauce.
