Heat 0.5 cup of sunflower oil in a pan until hot.

Add garlic and 2 large sliced onions to the pan and sauté until golden brown.

Transfer the sautéed onions and garlic to a blender along with 2 slices of tomatoes and 150 grams of yogurt, and blend until smooth.

In the same pan, add the chicken pieces and cook for a few minutes.

Add the blended onion, garlic, tomato, and yogurt mixture to the pan with the chicken.

Add dry spices: cardamom, cinnamon, bay leaves, and ginger powder, and cook for a few more minutes.

Pour in around 2 cups of water, just enough to cook the chicken and leave a little sauce, and cover the pan.

Cook the chicken for about 15 to 20 minutes until thoroughly cooked.

In a separate pan, add the soaked basmati rice and water with a bit of salt, and cook for about 5 minutes until halfway done.

Drain the water from the rice and place it on top of the cooked chicken in the pan.

Add food coloring on top of the rice, cover, and cook on low heat for about 10 minutes.

Check the rice to ensure it's cooked and not sticking together, then plate it up.
