Olive oil is healthier and can be used for roasting.
Prepare a bowl and add vegetable shortening and room temperature butter, about 2 tablespoons of each.
Blend the shortening and butter together until well mixed.
Smear the butter and shortening mixture all over the prime rib roast, ensuring it's coated heavily on all sides, including the ribs.
In a separate bowl, combine steak seasoning, about 1 tablespoon of rosemary, 1-2 tablespoons of black pepper, and a teaspoon of salt.
Mix the seasonings together and then smear this mixture all over the prime rib roast, ensuring to cover all sides.
Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C).
Calculate the cooking time: 5 minutes per pound of roast, so for a 4 lb roast, cook for 20 minutes at 500°F.
After 20 minutes, turn the oven off and leave the roast inside for 2 hours without opening the oven door.
After 2 hours, remove the roast from the oven and slice to serve.
