3 1/2 teaspoons red chili flakes
1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 5 garlic cloves)
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon ketchup
1/2 cup rice vinegar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons water (for slurry)

Add 3/4 cup of water to a pot on the stove.

Add 3 1/2 teaspoons of red chili flakes to the pot.

Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic (about 5 garlic cloves) to the pot.

Add 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger to the pot.

Add 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the pot.

Add 1/2 cup of white sugar to the pot.

Add 1 tablespoon of ketchup to the pot.

Add 1/2 cup of rice vinegar to the pot.

Mix all ingredients together for about 10 seconds.

Turn on the stove to medium heat to bring the mixture to a simmer.

Let the mixture simmer for about 2 minutes.

To thicken the sauce, make a slurry by adding 1 tablespoon of cornstarch to a measuring cup.

Add 2 tablespoons of water to the cornstarch and mix together.

Pour the slurry into the pot and mix it all together.

Lower the heat to low and let it simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

After 5 minutes, check the sauce; it should have thickened.

Turn off the heat and let the sauce cool; it will continue to thicken as it cools.
