Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Centigrade (425 Fahrenheit).
Peel the plantains by making a slit in the skin and removing it.
Cut the plantains diagonally into thick slices.
Place the sliced plantains on a greased baking tray in a single layer.
Drizzle vegetable oil over the plantains and sprinkle with salt to taste.
Mix the plantains to ensure they are well coated with oil and salt.
Bake the plantains in the oven for 15 minutes on one side, then flip them and bake for another 15 minutes.
For the deep-fried version, peel the plantains and slice them as before.
Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan until hot.
Add the sliced plantains to the hot oil and fry for about 2 minutes on each side until they are golden brown.
If the plantains get slightly burnt and turn black on the edges, they are still tasty according to the creator.
While the fried plantains are still hot, sprinkle with salt so it melts in the heat.
