Add 250 mls of nonchlorinated water to a jar.

Add 20 g of water kefir grains to the jar.

Add 1 tablespoon of sugar to the jar and stir until dissolved.

Cover the jar with cheesecloth and secure it with a rubber band.

Label the jar with the date and let it sit at room temperature for 48 hours.

After 48 hours, strain out the grains and discard the liquid.

Add 500 mls of water to the jar with the grains and stir.

Add 1 tablespoon of sugar to the mixture and stir until dissolved.
