In a large bowl, add 1/2 cup of room temperature salted butter.

Using a mixer, start mixing the butter until it's broken up.

Add in 1 cup of brown sugar and mix again, using a fork to help break down any clumps.

Continue creaming the butter and sugar together until well combined.

Add in 1 egg and mix until well combined.

Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and mix again.

Sift in 1 and 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of baking powder.

Start mixing on low speed to avoid a dust cloud.

If the cookie dough is dry, add 1 tablespoon (15 mL) of water to add moisture.

Mix in 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips until just combined.

Prepare a 9-inch diameter by 2-inch high baking pan by spraying it with cooking spray and lining it with parchment paper.

Transfer the cookie batter into the prepared pan using a spatula.

Wet the spatula with a little bit of water to prevent sticking and flatten the batter evenly.

Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 14 minutes.

After baking, score the cookie into slices while it's still hot.

Let the cookie cool completely before removing it from the pan.

Flip the cookie onto a cooling rack and remove the parchment paper.

Use a serrated knife to cut along the scored lines again for clean slices.
