In a saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of water over high heat.
Keep mixing to prevent burning on the bottom until it comes to a boil.
Remove the saucepan from the stove and let the syrup cool to room temperature.
Prepare the strawberries by cutting off the green stems and slicing them thinly.
Dip each thin slice of strawberry into the syrup, allowing excess syrup to drip off.
Place dipped strawberry slices on a baking sheet lined with a silicone mat.
Preheat the oven to 200°F and place the baking sheet in the oven.
Bake for about 1 to 3 hours, checking after 1 hour for desired texture.
The strawberries should be slightly gummy and have candy sugar around the edges.
